Gang Member Pleads Guilty To Firearm Offense Faces up to 10 Years in Prison for Possession of a Firearm
Greenboro, NC – A member of the Latin Kings organization pleaded guilty to a federal firearm charge today, announced Anna Mills Wagoner, United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina.
RANDOLPH LEIF KILFOIL, age 24, was indicted on July 28, 2009, on one count of felon in possession of a firearm, a Ruger 9mm pistol with an obliterated serial number. KILFOIL had been convicted on September 5, 2006 in the Superior Court of Guilford County of felony conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The case arose on May 13, 2009, when officers went to a Greensboro location known to law enforcement as the Latin Kings’ headquarters to serve a juvenile secure custody order. The Latin Kings are a known violent street gang to which KILFOIL belongs and for whom he serves as an enforcer.
“This conviction reflects the ongoing efforts of dedicated law enforcement officers and prosecutors to reign in gangs and guns,” said U.S. Attorney Wagoner, then added, “We are grateful to these individuals and agencies for their hard work and committed to partnering with government, law enforcement, social service agencies and community groups to implement, evaluate, and refine strategies which combat gang activity and make our neighborhoods safer.”
KILFOIL faces up to ten years imprisonment, up to three years supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing is set for June 2, 2010, in Winston-Salem.
The case was investigated by the Greensboro Police Department and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
